'Longmire' season 6 renewal: Netflix renews series for final season

It did not take long for Netflix to make "Longmire" season 6 official, but the bad news for fans is that this will also be the show's final season.

The contemporary crime thriller is officially coming to an end after narrowly escaping death at the hands of its former home network, A&E after the third season.

Netflix picked up "Longmire" and with the show only lasting up to season 6, the streaming giant gave it the same lifespan that A&E gave it.

But executive producers Greer Shephard, Hunt Baldwin and John Coveny could not be happier about how far the show has come and thanked Netflix for breathing life to it for three more seasons.

"We are grateful to Netflix for the opportunity to compose a closing chapter for these beloved characters that inspires lasting memories," they said in an official statement picked up by Deadline.

"Most importantly, we're committed to delivering a dynamic and satisfying conclusion to our fans that rewards their long-time loyalty," they added.

Netflix vice president for Original content Cindy Holland said, "We are proud to be the home of the Longmire series, as so many viewers over the last few seasons have watched and been captivated by Walt's (Robert Taylor) journey."

"There has been no better team to work with on this show than Greer, Hunt and John and their tremendous cast and crew, and we have every confidence that they will have a satisfying conclusion to this revered series," she added.

Like the cast and crew, fans are thankful that "Longmire" season 6 is happening and that Netflix stuck with the show ever since they picked it up.

Like the previous seasons, "Longmire" season 6 will have 10 episodes. These installments will be the last of the show ever.

The new season is expected to see Walt and Vic (Katee Sackhoff) finally become a couple just like how they did in the books by author Craig Johnson where the show is based.

"Longmire" season 6 will premiere next year.
