Mac mini 2017 release date, specs, features, news & update: still no clear release date for the new Mac mini
The Mac mini looked convenient and innovative when it first came out in 2005. But it hasn't garnered much attention in recent years. In fact, Apple hasn't rolled out an update for the device since 2014.
The company has failed to mention the device during its press events this year, and there are even rumors saying that Apple may have decided to discontinue the line. However, a number of industry insiders still believe that a new Mac mini may come out in sometime in 2017.
Macworld has reported that Apple may announce the updated Mac mini during an event in March next year, but the publication also cautioned that Apple may cancel the entire product line if a new Mac mini does not come out by then.
Despite the lack of a clear release date and the lack of information regarding the existence of the Mac mini 2017, sources still managed to come up with the likely specs for next year's Mac mini. Reports suggest the device will come out equipped with Intel's 7th-generation Core i7 Processors — the Kaby Lake.
The Mac mini 2017 will allegedly sport a graphics card that can support 4K resolution, and it will also use Thunderbolt 3 technology. Furthermore, the device will have USB Type-C ports and an upgrade in random-access memory (RAM). Reports also claim the Mac mini Server model may make a return in 2017. The Server model was discontinued back in 2014.
As of this moment, Apple has yet to announce that the Mac mini 2017 is under development. Until the company makes a confirmation, all reports concerning the device are rumors at best, so readers are advised to take everything with a grain of salt.
Meanwhile, Apple has announced that Mac mini models from early 2009 to mid-2010 are now considered vintage and obsolete. The company will no longer support the models since it has been more than five years since they have been manufactured.
