While awaiting "Madam Secretary" season 3 to commence, fans can enjoy the pouring in, although slim, of news and spoilers about the upcoming season. It is during this usual hiatus of the show when they get to ask questions and analyze speculations and new developments with regard to the series, such as its movement to a new airing time.

CBS has released its program schedule for the fall of 2016 indicating that US State Secretary-centered drama "Madam Secretary" will be taking Sunday's 9 p.m. slot, which the newly concluded "The Good Wife" previously thrived at and dominated.

CarterMatt talked about this move by CBS. It pointed out the advantage that the new time for "Madam Secretary" is generally the "best" hour on TV since its audiences cut across all categories and classes. Hence, this is part of the reasons why the "The Good Wife" excelled.

However, the new schedule of "Madam Secretary" places it on a tight one-hour difference from airing of football matches which have a large overall number of viewers. CarterMatt further explained that this means that spectators of the game usually do not just switch the TV station.

In addition, it implies that when a football match is re-broadcast, it is likely that "Madam Secretary" will not start airing until it is 9:45 p.m. Thus, this defeats the purpose of capturing audiences who are targeted in the first place because it is the time of the evening when most workers have just returned home and when it is relatively late but not late enough for targeted viewers to be already sleeping.

Placing "Madam Secretary" at 9 p.m. on Sundays is also pitting the political drama against the similarly themed "Homeland," and other heavy competitions "The Walking Dead" and "Game of Thrones."

The publication concluded that "Madam Secretary" was "not broke" in terms of ratings so there was no need to fix it. It agrees with the original airing schedule of the show despite the general advantages offered by the new one and regardless of being preceded by "NCIS: Los Angeles," which is a strong lead-in to the show following its airing.

"Madam Secretary" will return to CBS in September.
