'Major Crimes' season 5 spoilers, plot news: Young Hollywood star dies of drug overdose, or was it premeditated?
"Major Crimes" season 5 took a quick hiatus this week, but it is expected to come back with a bang next Monday, as the Major Crimes Unit takes on the case of a young Hollywood star's drug-related death.
The series, along with another one of TNT's police procedural drama, "Rizzoli & Isles," took a break Monday night to give way to the telecast of the Summer Olympics in Rio. According to Carter Matt, the network probably wanted to maximize viewership for the two shows, which would have been impossible to do last Monday, as the shows would have aired against a grand TV event.
That is a strategic move on the part of TNT rather than risk a dip in the ratings of "Major Crimes" and "Rizzoli & Isles."
The past episode prior to the hiatus had the MCU dealing with a former engineer named Elliot Chase (Jere Burns) who went on a shooting frenzy to exact revenge on mortgage brokers whom he thinks led him to a downward spiral. It ended with the man taking his own life before the MCU could take him into custody.
Monday's episode, titled "Off the Wagon," would see Lts. Andy Flynn (Tony Denison) and Mike Tao (Michael Paul Chan) investigating the mysterious death of a young Hollywood star. Chris Walker was making a showbiz comeback, but his life was snuffed out by an untimely death. Check out the promo teaser below.
As the interrogation progresses, some of his peers said they would have known if he was high, while a woman, perhaps his agent or manager, said the star would have had more worth to her if he were alive. Nevertheless, Captain Sharon Raydor (Mary McDonnell) could be seen in the video telling someone that the prescription drugs being given to Chris "sent him straight to the morgue."
Apparently, Chris' death was pre-meditated, but who could have wanted him dead? Episode 8 of "Major Crimes" season 5 would reveal the answer next Monday. Also appearing in the episode are Sherilyn Fenn ("Twin Peaks" and "Ray Donovan") who would play Chris' fiercely controlling, ex-"momager" and Missi Pyle ("Gone Girl") as his older, hard-partying widow.
Incidentally, the said episode would also feature a side story involving Rusty (Graham Patrick Martin), as he deals with the pregnancy of his biological mother.
"Major Crimes" season 5 episode 8 will air Monday, Aug. 15, at 10 p.m. on TNT.
