'Marco Polo' season 3 premiere date, news details & updates: Prester John is new villain; season 3 premieres on winter of 2017?
Netflix's big-budgeted historical-fiction series, "Marco Polo," is still not confirmed for a third season, but many fans continue to speculate that the streaming service will confirm it soon enough.
It had long been speculated that if Netflix would indeed renew the show, the storyline might move on to a new premise as Kublai Khan (Benedict Wong) is going to meet his end soon enough, and a new historical figure will rise in his place — Prester John, a legendary European King who was apparently brave enough to face and defeat Khan's army.
It is also speculated that Prester John will be the new villain once "Marco Polo" comes back for a third season.
Rumors of "Marco Polo" being canceled is still, however, looming because of the low reception of its second season which resulted in a big loss for Netflix, noting that the show entailed big costs.
Production for season 3 is also speculated to entail huge costs, and Netflix is having doubts on whether or not to greenlight the project once more.
It is also reported that Netflix is okay with the project, but with the condition of cutting down the overall budget of the series. The production team, however, cannot work with budget cuts as they believe it will affect the quality of the show.
Meanwhile, a previous report claimed that despite low viewership during its second season run, "Marco Polo" was still rated as the second most-watched digital series across different platforms. This means that many viewers might have followed the show other than Netflix's domain itself.
This new statistic might help Netflix speed up the decision to renew "Marco Polo." Hopeful fans expect the earliest premiere date for season 3 to happen by the winter of 2017. However, without official Netflix confirmation, premiere might still be pushed back to a later date.
