'Marvel vs Capcom 4' updates: Game not in the works, might not be released altogether
Those who have been waiting for "Marvel vs. Capcom 4" are in for a major letdown as the fighting game crossover is not at all in development as confirmed by "Marvel vs. Capcom 3" producer Ryota Niitsuma.
Niitsuma took to Twitter to break the news, saying that while he would "love" to develop "Marvel vs. Capcom 4," at the moment, "nothing was happening on that front."
Niitsuma was moved to a different division within Capcom, which will make it more difficult for him to create a successor to "Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3," which has just celebrated its five-year anniversary (it came out Nov. 15, 2011).
Nevertheless, Niitsuma was grateful to fans "for keeping the love for the game going." He reiterated that given the chance, he would not think twice about doing "Marvel vs. Capcom 4." "Well, it's been five years since [Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3]. Of course, my current work is also challenging, but if you are told that you can create your favorite title, I would like to make a grand game again," he tweeted.
According to Event Hubs, licensing has something to do with the game not seeing the light of day. Capcom does not have the rights over the characters to be added in the game and getting the license to use them will be a huge and not to mention, time-consuming challenge.
If Capcom's history in developing the fighting game crossover is any indication, it will take a while to just get the development of "Marvel vs. Capcom 4" going and that is if Capcom were to go through it.
"Marvel vs. Capcom 3" was not released until after 11 years after its predecessor came out and this was primarily because after "Marvel vs. Capcom 2" came out, Capcom lost the rights to Marvel Comics characters and had to sort that out, which they did in a span of a whole decade.
