'Maze Runner: The Death Cure' release date: Amid rumors of cancellation, production team confirms movie premiere pushed to 2018

When news of Dylan O'Brien's accident on the set of "Maze Runner: The Death Cure" broke out, fans feared for the safety of the lead star and worried how the incident would affect production of the movie. There are rumors that it has been called off, something that worried fans even more.

Fox, the movie outfit behind the "Maze Runner" series, has previously announced that the movie will be shown in theaters on Feb. 17, 2017. However, it will be remembered that O'Brien was rushed to the hospital after suffering serious injurious in a stunt mishap. Fox has since taken the blame for the accident, saying they allowed O'Brien to do the stunt even though he wasn't able to rehearse it.

Following the accident, the rumor mill spawned talks that the "Teen Wolf" actor can no longer finish the sequel so the movie would have to be canceled altogether. Nevertheless, Entertainment Weekly made it clear that no cancellation took place; the release date was merely moved to a later time – Jan. 12, 2018.

The almost yearlong delay of the premiere would give O'Brien to fully recover from the facial fractures, concussion, and lacerations that he sustained from the on-set accident. According to Yibada, Fox has not released word on when filming for "Maze Runner: The Death Cure" will resume.

Meanwhile, O'Brien's break from filming the third installment in the "Maze Runner" series will give him time to work on "Teen Wolf" season 6. Game n Guide reported that the upcoming season of the hit MTV series would introduce One Direction singer Harry Styles, who will purportedly be playing the role of a vampire.

Everything about Styles' inclusion in the sixth season of "Teen Wolf" is still speculations, although Jeff Davis, the series' showrunner, has revealed that they are in talks with the One Direction member.

If things go according to plan, fans could expect production for "Maze Runner: The Death Cure" to resume anytime next year. Stay tuned for more updates about the movie.
