The Memphis Grizzlies finally picked up a new player who can make a difference in the franchise as they landed Chandler Parsons in the off-season.

In recent memory, it always seemed that the Grizzlies had difficulty luring big names in the franchise and always depended on players like Zach Randolph, Marc Gasol and Mike Conley to get production.

Unfortunately, it has not proven to be enough as the Grizzlies slid last year and are now desperately trying to contend with the other teams in the Western Conference.

In comes Parsons, who is entering his sixth year in the league. Almost 28 years old, Parsons is averaging 14.3 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game.

This is a very welcome addition for the Grizzlies, but they certainly need more if they want to continue progressing.

Reports have surfaced on just what Parsons brings to the table, and how he may affect the team in the 2016–17 campaign.

First off, looking at Parson's contract, a four-year, $94 million deal should mean that he plays like a star as he commanded a maximum contract.

That means he has to do a little better than what he averaged last year when he played with the Dallas Mavericks. He averaged 13.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game, all while shooting 49 per cent from the field.

The Grizzlies certainly did not bring in Parsons to have him play a bit role in the system, so Parsons must use his versatility to adapt to the grinding game of the Grizzlies.

Furthermore, Parsons must ensure that he keeps wearing the Grizzlies uniform on game nights instead of street clothes.

While this also comes down to the luck of the draw, keeping himself healthy is important for Parsons. He has always had knee problems, and he finally addressed it with surgery. Unfortunately, his healing process has not been quick and he may miss out on a significant time.

Parsons must make sure he heals properly and contributes when he is on the floor.
