'Microsoft Office for Android' latest news: Chromebook with 10.1-inch screen or smaller variants can use Office documents for free
All Android users are rejoicing over the fact that the Chrome operating system (OS) can now run Android apps. They are rejoicing much more as Microsoft have announced that Chromebook owners will be able to use the Office apps with Google's OS.
Some Chromebook users previously aired their frustrations over the fact that they got the message, "unsupported on this device" note while trying to install the Microsoft Office apps such as PowerPoint, Excel, Microsoft OneNote and Word. On the other hand, some experienced no issues with regard to the apps, leaving those who had encountered problems becoming even more frustrated.
This sparked news that Microsoft may be blocking some original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) from running its apps, considering the fact that Microsoft Office is considered one of the most useful apps that most people use on a daily basis.
The addition of Microsoft Office adds vital offers to the Chrome OS since it can significantly increase the platform's promotion in the enterprise market.
"Office for Android is supported on Chrome OS devices via the Google Play Store. While Google Play on Chrome OS is in beta, we are partnering with Google to deliver the best experience for Chromebook users and plan to make the apps available on all compatible devices by general availability," said Microsoft, according to 9to5Google.
The Redmond-based tech giant's statement implied that the problem is only caused by teething issues. Similar to other devices and OS, Chromebooks with 10.1-inch screens or smaller variants have the ability to use Office documents without any cost. However, the company announced that there will be subscription fees charged with the advanced features of Office 365.
"Our strategy has not changed. Office for Android is supported on Chrome OS devices via the Google Play Store. While Google Play on Chrome OS is in beta, we are partnering with Google to deliver the best experience for Chromebook users and plan to make the apps available on all compatible devices by general availability," Microsoft added.
