Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release date, news, rumors: Windows 10 Redstone 2 update, Kaby Lake processor delay Surface Pro 5 production
Many tech followers tuned in to the Microsoft hardware event last October 26 to check out the latest gadget updates from Redmond-based tech company. Many who checked the hardware event were hoping that Microsoft would unveil the revamped Surface devices, particularly the much-awaited Surface Pro 5. It turns out that the October event focused on the latest update on the Windows 10 update, plus some new additions to the Surface family. Unfortunately for those waiting for the Surface Pro 5, Microsoft gave no details about the new hybrid laptop.
Even though many tech enthusiasts were hoping that the Surface Pro 5 will make an appearance this 2016, there are telling signs that such gadget will not be released in the coming weeks or months. iDigital Times earlier reported that the Surface Pro 5 is more likely to be unveiled early 2017 than the later part of this year. For one, the next Surface Pro device is expected to be the first to showcase the Windows 10 Redstone 2 OS update. The Redstone 2 update is now officially named the Creators Update, and according to the latest info, the said update will be finished in the early months of 2017. With this, the Surface Pro 5 will have to wait until then before getting released.
The Surface Pro 5 is also expected to be powered by Intel's next generation of chipset, which is the Kaby Lake processor. It is expected to be more powerful than the current Intel Skylake processor, therefore it should be expected that the Surface Pro 5 will be faster and more efficient than the current Skylake-powered computers. However, the Kaby Lake is not expected to be delivered until the end of 2016, which means that the development and packaging of the Surface Pro 5 units will also have to wait until sometime next year.
Nevertheless, there is more reasons for the public to wait patiently for the Surface Pro 5 due to its very promising lineup of features. International Business Times reported that the hybrid device will have a 4K UHD display feature with 3860 x 2560 LCD screen panel. It may also retain the 3:2 aspect ratio similar with the previous Surface Pro 3 and Surface Pro 4 units.
