Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release date, specs news: Device to have 4K display and new chipset?
People who have been following the progress of the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 online might have been disappointed when they heard that the device may be postponed until 2017. Rumors have suggested that the Surface Pro 5 will have a 4K resolution as well as a new Kaby Lake chipset.
The Kaby Lake chipset is also rumored to be the reason why the Surface Pro 5 was delayed. The vice president and general manager for the Client Computing Group at Intel, Navin Shenroy, said during his Intel's Computex 2016 keynote earlier this year that the seventh Generation Core — or Kaby Lake — will be coming out later this year. Since the Surface Pro 5 is said to run on that core, it only makes sense that the device would be delayed until early 2017.
He also went on to say, "We have over 400 designs coming to market on the Seventh Gen Core, and you can expect lots of innovations from our OEM partners bringing this product to market."
Rumors say that the Surface Pro 5 will come with a rechargeable Surface Pen and a USB Type-C port for faster data transfer and charging. The device is also said to run on the Windows 10 Redstone 2 OS, and it will have 16 GB worth of random access memory capacity.
Other reports have indicated that the Redstone 2 OS will have an "Office Hub" feature which seamlessly integrates Windows 10 and Office 365, making access to documents and e-mails quicker and more efficient.
The Surface Pro 5 also comes with a font camera with 8 megapixels and a back camera with 16.
The 4K resolution capacity may turn the heads of some gamers, but they will just have to wait and see if the Surface Pro is powerful enough to run heavy-duty games at 4K.
The price tag on the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is said to be $899, with the high-end variant valued at $1800.
The Surface Pro 5 is set to come out early 2017.
