'Minecraft Pocket Edition' update, news: Boss update released; comes with Add-Ons, Ocean Monuments, The Wither
Good news for all "Minecraft Pocket Edition" gamers. Microsoft and developer Mojang have finally released the latest update to the mobile app game after a slight delay. The 0.16 update or Boss Update is now available for download.
According to reports, the update is one of the most extensive so far. It brought along with it some new features and improvements that surely has avid gamers playing more than ever. First in the changes is the introduction of the official mod support of the game, the Add-Ons.
As detailed in a report, Add-Ons is a feature that gives gamers access to files that will let them edit, remix and alter the vibe of the game to match their preferences. They are noted to be textures and JSON files. This makes them easy to develop. It's also said that gamers can share their Add-Ons to others by uploading them to the Minecraft Realms.
The new feature also now eradicates waiting for the community creators to release mods because they can now do it on their own and get precisely what they want. "Minecraft" senior producer James Webster said that the Add-Ons feature is actually really easy to work with.
"It's really not that difficult. It's just a matter of creating the geometries, which is just a bunch of points in space. And then adding the textures to that," Webster said. "It's really simple to make these massive changes," he added.
Another feature from the Boss Update is the new Ocean Monuments, which allows players to have fun underwater and explore some of the sea inhabitants.
Moreover, Guardians and Elder Guardians have also been added into the mix. Gamers can find them in the deepest part of the oceans. The Wither, which was exclusive in the PC version of the game, has also been added to the app version. Mobile gamers can now have an encounter with the powerful mob.
