'Mission: Impossible 6' cast news, release date: Filming for 'Infinity War' may keep Jeremy Renner from 'M:I 6'
There is a possibility that "Mission: Impossible 5" actor Jeremy Renner may not be back for the next installment of the action/spy film series.
During a recent press tour for his latest film, "Arrival," Renner spoke about his involvement in several big-budget film series, including Marvel's "Avengers" films and the "Mission: Impossible" franchise. According to the actor, there may be some scheduling conflicts and he is unsure of his participation in the upcoming "Mission: Impossible 6."
"Avengers: Infinity War," the highly anticipated third "Avengers" film, will begin production in 2017. The superhero ensemble, a massive project for Marvel Studios, will bring together most — if not all — of the major players in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which means that Renner's Hawkeye could not possibly sit it out. This means that he may have to opt out of the next "Mission: Impossible" film, which was recently scheduled for a summer 2018 release. Renner plays FBI agent William Brandt alongside Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt in the franchise.
"I'm not sure what's happening!" Renner told Collider. "I know that they're really wanting to get it going, and I haven't spoken to Tom about ultimately where it's at. I know that there might be some conflict with schedules, so I'm not sure what's going to happen. 'Avengers' is going to eat up a lot of next year — gladly — but I certainly hope that won't get in the way of Tom and I and the gang getting back together, because I'd love to," he added.
ComicBook.com noted that because Renner must be getting a bigger paycheck from Marvel, the actor would likely prioritize "Infinity War." In addition, his absence from "M:I 6" wouldn't be much of a surprise given that Brandt wasn't a critical player in "Rogue Nation" (2015), the latest "Mission: Impossible" film.
"Mission: Impossible 6" was off to a rocky start this year. In August, preproduction on the film was reportedly halted pending negotiations between Cruise and Paramount Pictures. Prior to this, "M:I 6" was slated for a January 2017 premiere.
"Avengers: Infinity War" will be in theaters May 4, 2018. Meanwhile, "Mission: Impossible 6" will hit theaters July 27, 2018.
