'Modern Family' season 8 episode 12 spoilers: Cam and Mitch reunite with Sal; Clive Bixby returns for Valentine's Day special

"Modern Family" season 8 returns after a short hiatus next week, and the upcoming episode will center on Phil (Ty Burrell) trying to spice up his marriage with Claire (Julie Bowen).

Titled "Do You Believe in Magic?" the hit ABC comedy's Valentine's Day special will see the return of Phil's alter ego, Clive Bixby. With Claire busier than ever, Phil thinks he needs to exert more effort in re-igniting the romance between him and his wife. Episode 12 will also see yet another conflict between Gloria (Sofia Vergara) and Jay (Ed O'Neill). The former believes that her husband is playing favorites when it comes to their sons, Joe (Jeremy Maguire) and Manny (Rico Rodriguez).

"Phil summons his alter ego, Clive Bixby, for Valentine's Day when he worries that the romantic fire in his marriage has gone out. Meanwhile, Gloria is irked by Jay's apparent favoritism when it comes to Joe's improper gifts and Manny's dating insecurity; Cam and Mitch urge Lily, Haley and gal pal Sal to stand up to the men in their lives; and Alex learns she has a secret admirer," reads the synopsis for the show's next episode.

In the promo clip released by ABC, Hayley (Sarah Hyland) angrily throws a drink in Rainer Shine's (guest star Nathan Fillion) face, hinting that their Valentine's Day date didn't go well. Alex (Ariel Winter), on the other hand, appear to be having a good time as she kisses her new admirer. Unfortunately, it won't lead to a romantic relationship once she discovers that the guy has ties to her family.

The teaser also features Cam (Eric Stonestreet) and Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) going on a luxurious boat trip. Their extravagant getaway won't go as planned when the duo learns that Sal (guest star Elizabeth Banks) and Hayley are both facing relationship issues. The clip shows Sal accidentally falling off the boat while trying to get something from Cam.

The eighth season of "Modern Family" airs every Wednesday night at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
