Following a stream of leaks, teasers and rumors, the release of Mortal Kombat X has finally been announced by the creative director for NetherRealm himself, Ed Boon.

The game's official release date, according to Breathe Cast, will be on April 14, 2015. Mortal Kombat X is for such gaming platforms as Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS3 and PC.

The game was previously announced to feature at least 24 characters, including Cassie Cage, D'Vorah, Ferra &Torr, Goro, Kano, Kotal Khan, Quan Chi, Scorpion, Raiden and Sub-Zero.

In an interview with IGN, Boon revealed some details about the characters and gameplay for the Mortal Kombat X. "You still play the different chapters, and each chapter has a character where it follows their actions. But instead of just jumping from one character to the next, it'll jump in time as well. So all of a sudden, you may have a flashback and you'll participate in those, but sometimes the story will just move forward five or 10 years," he said.

"A lot of the new characters are those that came into power after 'MK9'," Boon disclosed.

He added that Kotal Khan will be included as he was "one of the rulers of Outworld during that 25-year period."

He also said many of the old faces will be included in the new game even as it introduces new characters.

"We're probably introducing more in this game than in any other MK title ever," Boon added.

Fans are hooked to these bits of information which NetherRealm has been releasing.

It's only a few months until we try the game for ourselves, so we should be expecting some more official announcements any time soon.
