"Mortal Kombat X," the latest installment in the Mortal Kombat gaming franchise, arrived on April 14 to positive reviews.

Some reviewers described the game as "nearly flawless." Other reviewers said much like its predecessor, the game features "ultra-violent" brawls but is pretty easy for both beginners and veterans to understand and play.

In its review, Polygon described "Mortal Kombat X" as approachable, adding that players will be impressed by its extensive single player content. For more advanced gamers, they will find that the game has enough content in its deep roster of characters and their fighting variants, the review said.

As for the violence in the game, the review noted that NetherRealm Studios chose to use restraint in depicting violence on screen. All of this goes towards making the game one of the best in the franchise, it added.

US Gamer, in its review, said the game's plus point is the rich content offered even though much of its items, like the alternate costumes, need to be purchased with currency earned in the game. Its content makes "Mortal Kombat X" one of the most enjoyable games in the franchise. Imperfections, such as small story mode and missing characters, do not bog it down, US Gamer said.

The game also got high grades from Game Informer which stated that it was a "fantastic successor in every sense" to the previous games in the franchise. It lauded its mechanics and described how they are akin to what were seen in the game released in 2011.

The multiple modes and features in the game serve as the icing on the cake, Game Informer said. The review dubbed "Mortal Kombat X" "one of the best fighting games in years."

"Mortal Kombat X" is currently available for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC. It will also be launched on the Xbox 360 and PS3 in the summer.
