'Narcos' Season 2 news, rumors: New season expected to premiere in August amidst cancellation rumors
Rumors have been circulating that the popular Netflix original series "Narcos" will have the premiere of its second season in August, as recent reports show that Season 2 will be the final chapter of the series.
The rumored August 2016 premiere of "Narcos" Season 2 on Netflix is based on the fact that the first season was released on Aug. 28 last year. Assuming that the show will follow the same yearly schedule, many people are expecting Season 2 to premiere sometime near August.
It can be noted that the production team of "Narcos" had problems with getting a replacement for the series' previous showrunner, Adam Fierro, who left the show before the end of Season 1. This sparked the speculations that the show is going to be cancelled as the team was reportedly having a hard time finding a replacement for Fierro. However, there are reports that Fierro had already written the script for the second season even before he decided to leave the show. The production of Season 2 was reported to push through with two persons assigned to temporarily act as the showrunners of "Narcos."
The Vine Report website noted that Fierro was in fact the second creator of "Narcos" before Carlo Bernard and Doug Miro who are actually the first pair of head creators, and his role was ultimately handed over to Chris Brancato.
Another reason that people were led into thinking that "Narcos" will have its final season is the fact that the series itself retells the life of Colombian drug syndicate head Pablo Escobar (played by Wagner Moura). Season 1 covered 15 years of Escobar's life leading to his involvement in the underground business and the remaining events in his life include his escape in La Catedral in 1992 until his death in his hometown of Medellin in late 1993. This will give roughly 18 months to be shown in season 2, according to Breathecast.
A recent interview of "Narcos" producer, Eric Newman with /Film via Crossmap revealed that Moura's Escobar has to die in the upcoming season.
"Trust me, if we could find a way to keep him alive and keep Wagner on the show... He will die," Newman said. "There are any number of things that can happen after. We have not committed to one or the other. Obviously, there are a lot of other stories in this world that continue on beyond him."
