'Narcos' season 2 release date news 2016: Pablo Escobar's brother wants to review season 2 before it airs

The highly anticipated release of "Narcos" season 2 could be affected by the ongoing battle between Netflix and Roberto Escobar, the brother of the late Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar, whose life has become the basis for the show's first and second seasons.

According to a letter written by Roberto for Netflix, which was published by TMZ, he is one of the last few surviving members of his brother's notorious Medellin Cartel. He also said he was Pablo's closest ally and accountant.

In his letter to the streaming giant, Roberto asked Netflix to refrain from releasing another season of the company's popular original series "Narcos" until he has been given the opportunity to review the material.

He also had a bone to pick with Netflix over the way "Narcos" season 1 depicted the life of his brother.

"In the first season of 'Narcos,' there were mistakes, lies, and discrepancies from the real story," he wrote, "the story that I not only was part of making, but that I survived from."

"I may be wrong, but I do not believe you may profit on my name, my brother's name, and my family's name and our likeness unless you pay and get our approval," he added.

Roberto's request may prove to be a very expensive one for Netflix. According to Newsweek, Escobar is seeking $1 billion in compensation from the company and will pursue legal action if necessary.

Although Roberto called his letter a "friendly request for co-operation," he also told Newsweek, "I don't think there will be any more 'Narcos' if they do not talk to me."

On top of that, Roberto also complained about "Narcos" star Wagner Moura's portrayal of Pablo, pointing out that the actor is Brazilian and not Colombian. He also questioned Moura's acting skills and ability to portray a drug leader realistically.

"Does he have any real experience in acting?" Roberto asked.

Netflix has yet to comment on Roberto's complaints and it remains unclear how the situation will affect future seasons of "Narcos."

"Narcos" season 2 will be available for streaming on Netflix on Sept. 2.
