The surviving members of the Chinoike and Uchiha clans are finally battling it out in the next episode of "Naruto Shippuden."

After it was revealed in the previous week's episode that Sasuke's travelling companion, Nowaki, was none other done Fuushin in disguise, episode 487 went on to reveal Chino as the last surviving member of the infamous Chinoike clan, who were driven into exile by the Uchihas. If there is any one particular person that Chino feels she should avenge the fate of her clan on, it's Sasuke. Episode 488 titled "The Last One" will be fitting the Uchiha clan's sharingan with the Chinoike's Ketsuryugan. Whose visual jutsu will prevail? And will this be the battle that finally puts an end to Sasuke's journey of atonement?

The preview for the next episode shows Chino questioning Sasuke's loyalty to Konoha, whom she says has "used up and absorbed" his clan. Why then would he be going to such lengths to defend them? Sasuke goes on to tell Chino about Naruto and how his friend's outlook and positive disposition in life has significantly influenced the way he looks at his own life right now.

Naruto believes in a better world, and in his own personal ways, Sasuke does, too. Will he be able to convince Chino that vengeance brings a person nothing but more pain? Will he be able to open her mind to the possibility of a better future, much like Naruto did for him? And by achieving this, will he finally be able to forgive himself?

Sasuke's arc will reportedly end with the next episode, and will be followed by Shikamaru's arc, which will then pave the way to the final arc in "Naruto Shippuden" that will feature Naruto and Hinata's wedding.

The "Boruto" anime adaptation is expected to follow in April 2017, and will feature the next generation of ninjas led by Naruto's son himself, Boruto.

"Naruto Shippuden" will be taking a week-long break and will be back with episode 488 on Thursday, Jan. 5, at 7:30 p.m. on TV Tokyo.
