"Naruto Shippuden" is expected to come to an end, but if the reports are to be believed, this is not the final "Naruto" anime fans will ever get to watch.

The final chapters of the "Naruto" manga are the subject of the latest episodes. The next installment is expected to depict the penultimate chapter (#699) of the source material.

However, there are reports that a "Naruto Shippuden" spinoff is in the works. According to Saiyan Island, the anime will eventually focus on the events after chapter 699.

This information was indicated in the jacket of a new "Naruto" book titled "Hidden Leaf Village Story: Steam Ninja Scrolls."

As fans would already know, other "Naruto" books were released after the main manga. The stories are set after chapter 700 and focus on various characters and locations.

Saiyan Island says that the books centered on Sasuke, the Hidden Leaf Village and Shikamaru will be released in anime form at some point in the future although it is unclear if they will be included in "Naruto Shippuden" or as a full-blown spinoff.

The anime is approaching the end of the manga with Naruto and Sasuke's standoff already depicted in the previous installment.

The next "Naruto Shippuden" episode will see the two come to an agreement and reconcile. After that, there is no information on what the anime will be about.

However, if a spinoff is in indeed the works, it is highly likely that the stories will focus on what happens after this clash.

The Hidden Leaf Village books are expected to be the first to be animated since they are set just several months after the battle.

After that will be Sasuke's journey after leaving Konoha as well as the story of Shikamaru set a couple of years after the manga.

"Naruto Shippuden" will be back with episode 478 tomorrow, Oct. 6.
