Nashville season 5 spoilers: cast tease more music, less drama in new episodes on CMT
After the sneak peek of the two-hour season 5 premiere was released on Dec. 15, the latest episodes of "Nashville" will air on CMT on Thursday, Jan. 5.
Fans of the country musical drama last saw Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere) in a complicated state when her plane crashed somewhere outside Nashville. All of her companions died except her, but she was left physically and emotionally traumatized because of the accident.
The country music superstar was placed in a rehab to recover from all her injuries. But during her conversation with Rayna Jaymes (Connie Britton), Juliette appeared to be blaming herself for the accident. According to her, she has the tendency to mess up everything in her life. The accident also affected her relationship with Avery Barkley (Jonathan Jackson).
On the other hand, Rayna was also affected by Juliette's accident. It has caused her to be anxious about riding a plane when she had to return from a singing engagement in Silicon Valley for app developer Zach Wells (Cameron Scoggins).
To help her with her flight anxiety, Deacon Claybourne (Charles Esten) flew all the way to California so he can accompany her on her plane ride back home. But Rayna still refused and opted to drive all the way back to Nashville in order to have some time to think about the recent events, especially about the economic slump of her record company, Highway 65.
Still, despite the dramatic sneak peek for the fifth season of "Nashville," actress Clare Bowen revealed in an interview with Parade that the new season will focus more on country music than the chaotic drama of the characters.
"It was puzzling to me how the show became more of a drama than featuring music," the actress who portrays the role of Scarlett O'Connor in the series stated. "We're very lucky to have CMT on our side, making sure that the show about the city of Nashville has more music in it," she added.
Britton, on the other hand, claimed in an interview with New York Times that "Nashville" season 5 will move forward from all the complicated storyline of the characters. "So I think the show is going to move forward in a more languid way that I'm hopeful will really bring these characters back to life," the actress said in an interview with New York Times.
