NBA trade rumors 2016: Cavs reportedly looking to trade Iman Shumpert
Iman Shumpert of the Cleveland Cavaliers has had a subpar 2015-16 season and his off-season is also shaping up to be another lackluster period.
After getting arrested for driving under the influence back in August, the Cavs has reportedly placed Shumpert on the trading block. A change of scenery may just be what the doctor ordered for the troubled guard.
The Cavs are reportedly currently mulling over the dilemma of their shooting guard position with J.R. Smith still not signed and Shumpert getting into trouble with the law. Many believe that the team needs to move Shumpert in exchange for another swingman.
One of the most persistent rumors is that the Georgia Tech alum will be packed off to the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for veteran Vince Carter and forward Brandan Wright. The Cavs will benefit from Carter's scoring and veteran leadership while Wright can provide some interior defense off the bench.
Another rumor states that the Golden State Warriors are willing to give up their defensive anchor Andre Iguodala to their rival Cavaliers for Shumpert. Iguodala and Shumpert basically cancel each other out as both are good defensive players who can score when needed. The Warriors would benefit by getting a younger player while the Cavs would get another experienced player to man the 2 and 3 spots.
While many are having doubts about the willingness of the Warriors to give up an important piece of their previous championship run, the biggest question here is whether the two bitter rivals are keen on helping each other out.
The Lakers may also come into play by offering another troubled player in Nick Young along with the high-leaping Larry Nance, Jr. for Shumpert. Young can provide instant offense off the bench or start as shooting guard if J.R. Smith bolts. Shumpert, meanwhile, could improve the Lakers' defense.
