NBA trade rumors: Josh Smith eyeing move to Cleveland

Still looking for a team to play for in the 2016–17 season, Josh Smith is reportedly targeting to play with the defending champions, the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Smith played for two different teams in the last campaign, starting with the Los Angeles Clippers before ending with the Houston Rockets.

Only playing 32 games with the Clippers, Smith averaged 5.7 points per game before moving back for his second stint with the Rockets.

Unfortunately, he failed to make an impact as he only played 23 games and averaged 6.6 points per game. 

In his career, however, he has done more as he averages 14.6 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game.

As he will be 31 years old soon, Smith is looking to play with a contender, and reports strongly link him to the defending champions.

Smith has found it difficult to find a steady home despite a unique set of skills as he has had trouble finding consistency in his game.

A natural power forward, Smith normally enjoys playing from the outside which causes him to be more inefficient.

Looking at his possible fit with the Cavs, Smith can be played as a center in small ball alongside Tristan Thompson and LeBron James and they will pose a big threat to any opponent.

They will definitely be mobile and can move the ball with ease while finishing strong toward the hole.

Furthermore, James' leadership should also help guide Smith from taking unnecessary shots that will not help the team and result in his personal stock falling.

This talk of Smith moving is a big gamble for the Cavaliers, who seem to have a solid line-up as it is.

However, if they can get the most out of Smith, then they can have a stretch power forward who has some nights where he can simply take over.
