The 14th season of "NCIS" is currently on hiatus, but speculations about the show's future beyond the current season claimed that the long-running police procedural drama could be cancelled.

Reports claimed that the ratings of "NCIS" season 14 decreased by 13.55 percent compared to season 13. While CBS already announced that the series will be renewed for season 15, the network remains silent about their plans for the show beyond that.

There are also speculations claiming that Mark Harmon, the actor who portrays the role of NCIS team commander Leroy Gibbs, might have to leave the show for health reasons. A report from GoshTV claimed that fans are starting to worry about Gibbs' shortened screen time as well as the actor's frail appearance this season.

While Harmon and the network remain mum about the speculations, the possibility of losing the main character of "NCIS" could be hard to imagine. He had been leading the team of special agents of NCIS since the show began in 2003, and it could be a great loss to the series if Harmon will leave.

On the other hand, there were also several speculations claiming that Michael Weatherly might also return to the show after his character Tony DiNozzo decided to leave NCIS in season 13. But some rumors claimed that Weatherly opted not to return to the show if Harmon will leave the series. However, Weatherly has yet to address the rumors regarding his supposed release.

While waiting for confirmation about the future of "NCIS" after the current season, viewers of the series have to wait until season 14 returns from its holiday break on Jan. 3, 2017.

At the moment, there are no plot details yet from CBS regarding the plot of the midseason premiere. The premiere episode for the second half of "NCIS" season 14 is expected to be called "Willowby."
