New Bond Movie 'Spectre' Cast News: Stephanie Sigman Is the New Bond Girl
In a an official statement posted on James Bond's official page on Facebook, Sony Studios and MGM announced that Mexican actress Stephanie Sigman is the new female cast of the 007 franchise's upcoming movie "Spectre."
"We are pleased to announce that Stephanie Sigman has joined the cast of 'Spectre' as Estrella," Sony announced in a post on March 10.
Sigman, the first Mexican girl to be cast in 50 years, will join fellow Bond girls Lea Seydoux and Monica Bellucci, who at 50 is the oldest Bond girl to date.
The 27-year-old actress is reportedly set to be Bond's slain girl as James Bond films have been known to kill off at least one of the female characters romanced by the spy.
Sigman may not have equivalent acting credits close to Bellucci and Seydoux, but she is not a rookie having starred in the Academy Awards-nominated "Miss Bala" in 2011.
She also starred in "Pioneer," Norway's entry for best film at this year's Oscars. Her recent TV appearances included "The Bridge" and "Narcos."
Alongside Sigman, other new additions to the 24th 007 movie include Christoph Waltz, Dave Bautista and Andrew Scott. The first image of Bautista's baddie Mr. Hinx was released last month.
Directed by Sam Mendes with script written by John Logan, "Spectre" has been filming in Europe for its scheduled release this November.
Last month, Mendes released a behind-the-scenes video of the shoot so far, featuring Craig as well as "Skyfall" returnees Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris and Ralph Fiennes.
"What you have is a movie entirely driven by Bond. He is on a mission from the very beginning," Mendes said in the video, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"It's about whether or not to pursue the life he's always pursued, whether he matters and is he going to continue or not," he added.
