'New Girl' season 6 episode 4 spoilers: When cop and girl collide

"It's a crossover!" Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and Jake (Andy Samberg) are in for a bumpy ride in the one-hour crossover event happening next week between "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" and "New Girl." | YouTube/FOX

After a glamping trip that ended in a couple of glitches and a potential romance for series protagonist Jess (Zooey Deschanel), the L.A.-based friends are off on another trip with a more significant purpose. Next week will finally see the much awaited crossover episodes between two of FOX's hit comedy shows, "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" and "New Girl."

The event will start in New York, wherein Deschanel will be making a special guest appearance in "Brooklyn Nine-Nine." In the official episode preview posted by FOX, Jess runs into Det. Peralta (Andy Samberg) who is in pursuit of a suspect and commandeers her car. He ends up taking her along for the ride all the way back to Brooklyn's 99th Precinct, where the detective will then commission the middle school teacher's help to find the suspect they have apparently lost in the chase.

In the "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" episode titled "The Night Shift," Capt. Holt (Andre Braugher) will also be dealing with the after-effects of his squad's transfer to the night shift and will find ways to raise their office morale.

Det. Amy (Melissa Fumero) will also be making it her personal task to try and figure out the reason behind fellow Det. Rosa's (Stephanie Beatriz) frequent long breaks.

The reason behind Jess' sudden appearance in New York will be explained in the "New Girl" episode titled "Homecoming." According to Unreality TV, Jess is on an errand to get soup from Schmidt's (Max Greenfield) favorite deli when she crosses paths with Det. Peralta.

Meanwhile, her friends Nick (Jake Johnson) and Winston (Lamorne Morris) will end up having to impress Det. Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio) while trying to make some cash for their subway fare. As it turns out, the real reason behind the trip is presumably Cece's (Hannah Simone) first meet-up with her mother-in-law, Louise (Nora Dunn).

The one-hour crossover event airs on Tuesday, Oct. 12 and starts in "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" at 8 p.m. EDT and continues on in "New Girl" at 8:30 p.m. EDT on FOX.
