Nexus 6 vs Nexus 5 Review and Comparison: What Are the Improvements?
After months of waiting, the Nexus 6 has officially been unveiled and the phone will be up for grabs starting Oct. 29. It will be the latest addition to Google's Nexus line, manufactured by Motorola.
Although "bigger" doesn't always mean "better," bigger is definitely better in the case of the new Nexus. With a dimension of 6.27 x 3.27 x 0.40 inches (159.26 x 82.98 x 10.06 mm) and a "splash resistant" built, the phone is significantly bigger than the Nexus 5 which has a 5.43 x 2.72 x 0.34 inches (137.84 x 69.17 x 8.59 mm) dimension.
The resolution of the Nexus 6 is 1440 x 2560 pixels, with 493 ppi and AMOLED screen, while the Nexus 5 has 1080 x 1920 pixels with 445 ppi and IPS LCD screen.
The power of the Nexus 6 comes from its Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 APQ8084 system chip and Quad core 2700 MHz Krait 450 processor and Adreno 420 graphics processor. The Nexus 5, on the other hand, is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 MSM8974 system chip, Quad core 2260 MHz Krait 400 processor, and Adreno 330 graphics processor.
Nexus 6 comes with 3GB RAM while the Nexus 5 comes with 2GB RAM. From Nexus 5's 32GB internal memory, the Nexus 6 has been improved to 64 GB.
The camera of the Nexus 6 is at 13 megapixels while the Nexus 5 only has an 8 MP camera.
As for the features of the camera, the Nexus 6 has autofocus, optical image stabilization, face detection, digital zoom, geo tagging, High Dynamic Range mode (HDR) and panorama.
In comparison, the Nexus 5 has Back-illuminated sensor (BSI), autofocus, touch to focus, optical image stabilization, face detection, ISO control, white balance presets, burst mode, digital zoom, geo tagging, High Dynamic Range mode (HDR), panorama, scenes and self-timer.
The Nexus 6 camcorder comes with 3840x2160 (4K) (30 fps), 1920x1080 (1080p HD) (30 fps), 1280x720 (720p HD) (30 fps) while the Nexus 5 comes with 1920x1080 (1080p HD) (30 fps) with optical image stabilization and video light.
The Nexus 6 front facing camera is at 2 megapixels while that of the Nexus 5 is at 1.3 MP.
Lastly, the Nexus 6 features a bigger 3220 mAh battery compared to the Nexus 5's 2300 mAh battery.
Indeed, Google has improved its Nexus phone not just by increasing its size but its power and enhancements as well.
