Nike HyperAdapt 1.0 release date, features, news: Nike's breakthrough adaptive lacing technology turns science fiction into reality
An iconic yet fictional idea has finally come to life with Nike's most innovative sneakers yet, the Nike HyperAdapt 1.0.
As announced by Nike, the Nike HyperAdapt 1.0 in Black/White-Blue Lagoon is available at the Nike Soho store and the NIKE+ Clubhouse at 45 Grand in New York on Dec. 1 for a retail price of $720. Interested consumers can learn more about the Nike product and see and try the shoes for themselves.
However, a small group of NIKE+APP users was already given early and limited access and opportunity to purchase the HyperAdapt 1.0 on Nov. 28.
Nike has labeled their newest shoe product as the first performance vehicle for their latest platform breakthrough: adaptive lacing. The heavily-developed technology will supposedly provide a permanent solution to people's varying individual preferences in the lacing and tension of their shoes.
The idea of the self-lacing sneakers became widely known since the innovative design was presented in the popular sci-fi movie "Back to the Future II" back in 1988.
According to Digital Trends after traveling to the physical store in New York to try on the product, wearing the Nike HyperAdapt 1.0 should be labeled as "form-fitting comfort." The second the foot enters the shoe, the built-in sensor detects the foot pressure, which in turn activates the automatic lacing of the HyperAdapt 1.0. The sneaker will stop tightening upon detecting a certain friction threshold.
The much-anticipated Nike product comes with a magnetic charger which attaches to the sneaker's sole and is powered through a USB connector.
By its name, it can already be assumed that the HyperAdapt 1.0 is only the first of many shoe designs that Nike will be creating that will be equipped with their adaptive lacing technology.
The Nike HyperAdapt 1.0, designed by Tinker Hatfield, will become available through the NIKE+APP and select Nike doors in the United States around late December. The innovative shoes will come in both Black/White-Blue Lagoon and Metallic Silver/Black-White colorways.
