While the Nintendo NX was announced way back in March 2015, only a little is known about the upcoming game platform.

At the time, the late Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata confirmed that the company is developing a new product, code-named NX, describing it as a "dedicated game platform with a brand-new concept."

On Friday, Aug. 19, an interview with Shinya Takahashi, General Manager of Entertainment Planning and Development at Nintendo, was published in Nikkei Trendy. In the interview, the Nintendo boss gave some additional insight into the highly anticipated NX.

When the interviewer spoke about how the makers of the Wii had intended on the video game console being something that moms would not dislike, Takahashi said that the NX, as well, is being developed with moms in mind.

"I can't talk about this in detail yet, but we are aiming so that neither people who like games nor moms dislike it," the Nintendo boss explained. "I think that I want to release a game device that both customers who have much experience in gaming and customers who haven't played much can enjoy greatly."

The interviewer also spoke to Takahashi about how the lack of new software for the Wii resulted in a drastic slide in the console's sales. With an anticipated early 2017 release date, did Nintendo intentionally move the NX's launch away from the highly profitable Christmas period to ensure that there will be enough software for the game platform?

According to Takahashi, this issue is something that they are paying attention to.

"Software development teams and teams that create the development environment are thinking about the NX lineup together," he said. "We have built a stronger cooperative relationship compared to what is was before and are making efforts so that software can be developed smoothly."

While Nintendo has previously confirmed that the NX will launch in March 2017, there are also rumors that the new game platform will be unveiled on Sept. 21.
