Nintendo Switch news: Nintendo announces hands-on event to be held in New York on January 2017
The Nintendo Switch — one of the most anticipated devices to be launched soon — will finally make its hands-on debut at a private event early next year.
According to reports, Nintendo announced that the event will take place in New York on Jan. 13, 2017. After a streamed presentation on the night of Jan. 12 known as the "Tokyo webcast," the Switch will have a five-hour event in NYC. Nintendo previously announced that the Tokyo presentation will be held live for media and investors. The Switch's exact release date and price will also be announced in the event. To date, the next-gen console was only given a March 2017 release window. Further details about the New York event and its location are yet to be revealed, but the company did stress that it will "emphasize some of the details that Nintendo plans to announce."
EA chief competition officer Peter Moore spoke at a conference event today, and he discussed the upcoming console from Nintendo. He revealed that the company is bringing a "major" game to the console, though he didn't announce which one.
"We're huge fans [of Nintendo]," Moore said during the Credit Suisse Technology, Media, and Telecom Conference. "We've had a relationship that goes many decades back. They've had some difficult times recently, obviously, but [you should] never ever, ever discount Nintendo in this marketplace, and their ability to leverage their superb game development opportunities [and] their intellectual properties," he went on to say.
As for the company's plan for Switch, Moore added: "We're going to watch with interest. You can rest assured that EA, as with every major publisher, is in regular conversations with Nintendo."
EA is only one of the several game publishers confirmed as third-party partners for Nintendo's new console. Other big names in the gaming industry teaming up with Nintendo include Square Enix, Capcom, Bethesda, Ubisoft, Warner Bros., and Activision.
