Nintendo Switch news: 'Splatoon 2' to be playable on upcoming console
Nintendo's upcoming third-person shooter "Splatoon 2" is coming to the much-anticipated Switch.
Although the Switch doesn't have a huge catalog of launch titles, players will no longer need to wait months to get their hands on the biggest game. Nintendo has announced that a free preview of "Splatoon 2" is coming to the console next month, and it will be available from March 24 to 26. Called "Global Testfire," the preview can be played for a limited number of hours each day. It gives fans a glimpse of how the inky shooter has evolved since its first installment in 2015.
Additionally, "Splatoon 2" will introduce the LAN Play mode that allows eight docked players to compete against each other without having to connect to the internet. The feature is reportedly meant for tournaments where more than handheld play is needed. There is also a Private Battle Spectator View option that allows two additional people watch private games from various angles. The new LAN Play mode promises to connect eight players, but according to Gamespot, the Switch can actually link up to 10 players.
Nintendo released a press statement explaining that the hybrid hardware will offer 10-player options for serious tournaments. However, it can also handle eight docked consoles for casual gaming.
"Connecting up to 10 docked consoles via wired LAN will be well-suited for proper tournaments, while for more casual get-togethers up to eight players can still enjoy a quick game via the previously revealed local wireless connection," the press statement mentioned.
Additionally, Nintendo revealed more information about the upcoming Switch smartphone app. The mobile software will connect to the game and its purpose is to allow "players to set play appointments with friends who have been added to their Nintendo Switch friend list or via their social media accounts."
The Nintendo Switch is scheduled to roll out on March 3, 2017.
