Nintendo Switch Pro Controllers immediately sell out at GameStop; other pre-order options revealed
The Nintendo Switch Pro Controllers recently went up on sale, and the upcoming gamepad was immediately sold out in GameStop.
An inordinate amount of demand for the Switch was expected because it's the newest console in the market. Tech-savvy fans are well aware that Nintendo hardware is notorious for being difficult to get at launch, so it wasn't a big surprise when the Switch was immediately sold out. However, there seems to be a high demand for the system's controller as well.
On Friday, GameStop opened pre-orders for the Pro Controller, and all units are now sold out. Similar to what happened to Amazon last week, the $70 controller sold out in just a matter of minutes. The listing on GameStop's website briefly indicated that the pad is not available for pre-order. Reports say that the news release confirming its availability went up at around 11 a.m. ET, and the stocks were quickly sold out, but customers can still get one if they are willing to pay more for a bundle.
As of writing, Best Buy is now offering pre-orders for the Pro Controller, although the stocks may already be limited. The controllers are only available for shipping and not for in-store pickup. It can also be pre-ordered from the Nintendo UK official store.
The Nintendo Switch hits the shelves on March 3, priced at $300 each. The Switch and Pro Controller will be released on the same day, with two million units that will be made available worldwide.
Meanwhile, in an interview with Gamespot, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime spoke about the NES Classic Edition supply shortage and assured consumers that things will be smoother when the Switch arrives.
"We're working to make sure that the supply chain [for Switch] is robust and there is a steady flow of hardware," he said. "The one piece we can't anticipate is the demand side of the equation but certainly from a supply, we feel like we're going to be well-positioned," he added.
