'No Man's Sky' news and update: Game loses 90 percent of active players; players demand refunds
"No Man's Sky" was pretty much media-hyped prior to its release earlier this month. Expectations ran high with promises bordering false advertising. But the game turned out to be a major flop with a steady stream of angry players blasting Hello Games' action-adventure survival video game.
In a nutshell, the game's woes stem from a number of issues. Some of the complaints point to its unresolved technical issues despite frequent release delays. Others tend to focus on more what gamers perceive as false advertising with the game being billed with too many big promises that remain undelivered, Game Spot reported.
As the pre-release enthusiasm turned into a big disappointment, the figures in the past two weeks have been merciless. As reported by Game Rant, 90 percent of the "No Man's Sky" gaming population has quit playing. Out of the 157,000 players who initially bought the game, only 10, 000 reportedly continued playing. The attrition is so drastic even though the pre-launch hype created so much noise across the gaming world.
Sales naturally plunged 81 percent after a series of bad reviews from angry players caused its market reception to dive further. Pre-orders also suffered as players lost interest due to a slew of gameplay issues. With such an enormous map featuring 18 fully explorable quintillion planets, the game's galactic scope appeared to have caused stability issues to the game.
To pacify an angry horde of customers who took to the social media to vent out, the Inquisitr reported that some distributors have started processing a multitude of money back requests regardless the number of hours played. Steam came first with the decision followed by Sony and Amazon. The game can be purchased at $59.99 at Steam, Sony, and Amazon. In addition, Hello Games attempts to make peace with the gamers by rolling out a series of software patches to fix bugs and glitches. The developer also promised to launch downloadable contents as soon as the issues have been remedied.
