NVIDIA GTX 1080 Ti release date, news, specs rumors: GPU is a more affordable version of the Titan X?
As of now, the GPU industry is dominated by Nvidia and their Titan X, but with a price tag of $1,200, some gamers can't afford the luxury of having one of the most powerful Pascal-based GPUs in the market. Reports are saying that Nvidia is working on the GTX 1080 Ti, a beefed up version of the 1080 which will perform like the Titan X, but will come with a friendlier price tag.
According to reports, the Nvidia's plans for the 1080 Ti are a way to deliver a high-end GPU to mid-market consumers. The 1080 Ti is said to have been tweaked enough to perform like the Titan X, but the components used to build it will allow for a more affordable price.
The GPU is said to come with 12 GB of GDDR5 memory and it will run on a 384-bit memory interface. It will have a speed that goes up to 8 GBps — that's enough power to run games at 4K and even 8K without any hiccups. The 1080 Ti is also said to be Virtual Reality-ready.
Much like the other GPUs in its series, the 1080 Ti is also said to run on Pascal-based architecture and it will have a CUDA core count of 3,328. It has a base clock of 1,503 MHz and a boost clock of 1,623 MHz. The GPU will also have a power requirement of 250 watts, and it also needs a 600-watt power supply to run properly.
Though the 1080 Ti has not been officially announced by Nvidia, rumors are suggesting that the device will be announced at next year's Consumer Electronic Show (CES) happening in January. It will most likely be announced in a keynote address by Nvidia CEO, Jen-Hsun Huang.
Will the 1080 Ti be the consumer-friendly version of the Titan X? Gamers will just have to wait and see.
