Oklahoma City Thunder trade rumors: Russell Westbrook to decide on his future with the team
The Oklahoma City Thunder still have half of their old dynamic duo as Russell Westbrook is still with the team.
There have been multiple suggestions that Westbrook should be traded to other teams, with the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics as possible destinations.
Westbrook still has a year left in his contract with the Thunder; after the 2016-17 season, he will be an unrestricted free agent and is set for a big contract with any team that he chooses.
However, that is still a year from now, and SB Nation reports that Westbrook must make his decision this summer.
It is still highly likely that Westbrook bolts for another team, being traded to other squads for his current contract so that the Thunder gets something in return for their superstar guard.
Oklahoma City are afraid that Westbrook might just play this current year and leave the team next year, with the Thunder not getting any assets in return as they continue their rebuild.
Recently, talks have surfaced that Westbrook is not all too happy with Kevin Durant leaving for the Golden State Warriors. Even worse, he was under the impression that Durant was coming back to the team after the two, along with Nick Collison, spoke during dinner.
It was refuted by Durant, as reported by Yahoo!, but this greatly affects Westbrook's outlook with playing with the Thunder.
As one of the most competitive players in the league, Westbrook is said to want to play this year with the Thunder to prove a point and begin his transition as the marquee player in the team.
He certainly has the skills to do so, as his eight years in the league has resulted in five NBA All-Star appearances, and he averages 21.5 points, 5.6 rebounds and 7.6 assists per game.
His complete game can transcend with the Thunder and if OKC can continue building around him, their wish that Westbrook stays may come true and he will sign a new contract with them.
