'Once Upon a Time' news: Jennifer Morrison addresses her expiring contract and future in the show
During the recent Television Critics Association winter tour, ABC chief Channing Dungey revealed that "Once Upon a Time" creators Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis are looking to recourse the direction of the drama for its potential seventh season. That being said, a lot of fans wondered what it meant to the existing world that the series has built up in the last six years including its main gameplayers. This includes show mainstay Jennifer Morrison, which personal situation is drawing more concern regarding her continued appearance in the fantastical show.
In the event that the series gets renewed, the budding transition shared by Dungey may unfortunately mean that not all the mainstays in the series will be tapped to come back for its duration. Nothing has been finalized yet but Horowitz and Kitsis are said to be already pondering on "how do you kind of hit the reset button in a way that gives you an opportunity to expand the stories that we're telling?"
Morrison who has been a part of the show since day 1 plays Emma Swan up until the current season. However, as it turns out, her contract is set to expire this April and with "Once Upon a Time" not yet officially picked for another order, everything is somewhat in a standstill.
"We are just waiting now to see if the network decides to continue with the show — and if they do continue with the show, if they're going to rework it to be something else, or if they're going to invite people to stay. We're just in a holding pattern right now," Morrison candidly admitted when she went on to guest at Will Malnati's podcast, "The Drop-In." "I don't have any interest in abandoning something that is such a special part of my life, but I also know I don't have it in me to do it forever, so it's more about a life decision, and I don't even know how to make that life decision until I know what ABC even wants."
At this point, all loyal "Once Upon a Time" fans have no choice but hope and wait for the best as well as look forward to the remaining narrative for season 6 where Morrison and the rest of cast are still expected to be in. New episodes are scheduled to start airing starting March 5, 8 p.m. ET.
