'Once Upon a Time' Season 4 Spoilers, Plot Recap: 3 Female Villains Appear; Emma Has the 'Darkest Heart'
"Once Upon A Time" returned for the second half of its fourth season on Sunday at 8/7c on ABC, bringing with it three villains in the form of Maleficent (Kristin Bauer van Straten), Ursula (Merrin Dungey), and Cruella (Victoria Smurfit).
It was also revealed in the show that Emma (Jennifer Morrison) was the character with the darkest heart.
The hour started with Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle) using Maleficent, Ursula and Cruella in the Enchanted Forest to get a treasure after he convinced them it would bring them their happy endings. However, once he got the treasure, he fled. A Chernabog monster was then released and it tried to eat the three female villains but they escaped.
Events transitioned to the current time with Rumplestiltskin posing as a professor and giving a spell to Belle (Emilie de Ravin) which allowed Regina (Lana Parrilla) to release the fairies from the sorcerer's hat. However, when they released them, Chernabog was also set free.
Rumplestiltskin, who had plotted the release of the monster to get Cruella and Ursula into Storybrooke, then had them call Regina to get rid of the monster. Regina took up their offer and allowed them to using the magic scroll. After Cruella and Ursula provided the information that the monster was attracted to the person with the darkest heart, Regina and Emma lured the Chernabog over the town line where it broke into pieces.
Cruella and Ursula then tossed the scroll across the line to Rumplestiltskin and let him back into Storybrooke. After this, Rumplestiltskin revealed that it was actually Emma who had the darkest heart in the town and Maleficent was not fully dead.
Next, Mary Margaret (Ginnifer Goodwin) and David (Josh Dallas) were seen meeting with Cruella and Ursula and threatened them with death if they did not keep their secret. During their conversation it was revealed that something happened in the Enchanted Forest that the pair wanted kept as a secret.
