'Once Upon a Time' Season 4 Spoilers, Plot Recap: Pinnochio Reveals Location of Storybook's Author – Trapped Beneath Page
The latest episode of "Once Upon a Time" centered on a major revelation in the form of the author's location, and it wasn't what everyone was expecting. As for the rest of the episode that aired on Sunday at 8/7c on ABC, the focus was on Ursula's (Merrin Dungey) backstory.
"Poor Unfortunate Soul" started with young Ursula's (Tiffany Boone) father Poseidon (Ernie Hudson) commanding her to destroy ships by tricking sailors to their doom with her lovely voice, all because one of them killed her mother. Ursula, however, didn't want any part in the plan and spared the Jolly Roger at the last moment, which earned her Hook's (Colin O'Donoghue) gratitude.
Hook then offered to take Ursula to the kingdom of Glowerhaven where her mother once performed, but Poseidon tried to hang on to Ursula and made a deal with Hook. As part of the deal, he would give him ink from a squid which he could use to defeat Rumplestiltskin, but in exchange he would have to capture Ursula's singing voice in a shell. But Hook convinced Ursula to steal the squid ink and in exchange he would take her to Glowerhaven.
Poseidon, however, learnt of the double cross and he recovered the stolen ink, which caused Hook to trap Ursula's voice in the shell, which he then placed on the Jolly Roger. Ursula in her anger took her father's trident, which made her more powerful than her father, and left.
After this flashback, attention turned to how Rumplestiltskin tortured the captive (August/Pinocchio) by placing his nose near a fire and asked him about the whereabouts of the storybook's author. August revealed that the author was behind a door drawn in the book, but that he didn't know where it was.
Then Rumplestiltskin along with Regina (Lana Parrilla) and Maleficent (Kristin Bauer van Straten) headed to the Sorcerer's house as they believed the door was there. Meanwhile, Hook and Ursula brought the Jolly Roger to Storybrooke and they then released it from its shrunken form in a bottle. However, Ursula could not use the shell to get her voice back. She tried to kill Hook by throwing him into the water, but he was rescued by Ariel who went to fetch Poseidon.
After Poseidon arrived, he apologized to Ursula and gave her back her voice. She then revealed that Rumplestiltskin could not provide happy endings by finding the author. As the author could not write a happy ending with Emma (Jennifer Morrison) the savior around, Rumplestiltskin planned to fill her heart with darkness. August then revealed that the author was trapped beneath a page in the book which had an illustrated door.
