'Once Upon a Time' season 6 return date, news, plot spoilers: Princess Ariel to appear; David to break under the sleeping curse?

JoAnna Garcia Swisher will be returning as Princess Ariel when season 6 of "Once Upon a Time" returns. Meanwhile, David (Josh Dallas) might not be able to endure the Evil Queen's (Lana Parilla) sleeping curse any longer.

Ariel was last seen in "Once Upon a Time" season 4, where she helped Ursula (Merrin Dungey) return to her father, Poseidon (Ernie Hudson). This season, however, she will be helping out Storybrooke's own heroes.

Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that Swisher will be appearing as Ariel once again when the series returns this March. Ariel will be teaming up with co-princess Jasmine (Karen David) to help Emma (Jennifer Morrison) and Hook (Colin O'Donoghue) as they find themselves in an inescapable situation.

Executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis shared, "Ariel returns and meets Princess Jasmine as they join Hook [Colin O'Donoghue] on an adventure as he and Emma face a daunting challenge that requires a big time princess team-up."

Meanwhile, David might not be able to hold on much longer under the sleeping curse that the Evil Queen cast upon him and his wife, Snow (Ginnifer Goodwin).

The curse is said to last for several more episodes, and according to Kitsis, David is not doing so well without his wife by his side, especially now that he is ready to kill the Evil Queen.

"What we're seeing through David is somebody who is at his wits end. This curse with his wife, I think that what we're seeing is that he's staying up too late. Without Snow, you're seeing him starting to give into darker impulses. We're going to see him have to confront his own demons," Kitsis explained.

David might not get much help from the rest of the bunch as they are all busy with their own dilemmas when "Once Upon a Time" season 6 returns. While he and Hook are on a mission to bring back Emma and Regina to Storybrooke, the two are still in the wish realm with Robin Hood (Sean Maguire). Belle (Emilie de Ravin) and Rumple (Robert Carlyle) also have their hands full with trying to redeem their son from the Dark Realm.

"Once Upon a Time" season 6 returns this March on ABC.
