'Orange is the New Black' Season 3 Release Date, Cast News: Jason Biggs Not Returning to Netflix Show
While fans of "Orange is the New Black" were counting the days to the show's Season 3 premiere on June 21, they received the good news that the show had been renewed for a fourth season.
As the start of Season 3 approaches, here are some notes and spoilers on the upcoming season:
Actor Jason Biggs is not coming back in Season 3, but his character Larry might come back at a later time. Larry was Piper's ex-fiancé who played around with her best friend, Polly. "They're not focusing on Larry at the moment. Larry will not be in Season 3. But there's always a possibility he can come back," Biggs said.
Veteran actress Mary Steenburgen has joined the cast and she will be playing Mendez's mother. Mendez, aka Pornstache, will not be around that much. In an interview, Pablo Schreiber, who plays Mendez, said he will be in fewer episodes since his character has been imprisoned. Schreiber has confirmed that he is now a series regular on the HBO show called "The Brink."
Alex will be in more episodes. Laura Prepon's character Alex will be back full time in Season 3 (she wasn't seen much in Season 2), most probably because Piper gets her thrown back in. This could become a big source of conflict between the two.
Actor Mike Birbiglia has joined the cast in an unknown role.
Australian actress Ruby Rose has also joined the cast and will play a new inmate who may provide some spice for both Piper and Alex—a love triangle, perhaps?
Actress Lori Petty (Lolly) will join the cast as a new inmate. Although she was already seen at the start of Season 2, the trailer featured her. This could mean her becoming a regular fixture for Season 3.
Taystee and Suzanne may now be friends as the trailer shows Suzanne comforting Taystee. Dayanara and Bennett are still together. There is a new guard at Litchfield.
There will be a Martha Stewart-inspired character in Season 3. In the original memoir that inspired the show, Martha Stewart was almost sent to Danbury (the real-life basis for Litchfield prison) before ending up in West Virginia following her insider trading scandal in the early 2000's. There is no news yet as to who will play the character.
