'Orange is the New Black' season 5 release date, plot spoilers: Series returns next year; officer Humphrey dies?
American comedy-drama web television series "Orange is the New Black" is definitely coming back. Despite the previous rumors saying that the show will get cancelled, season 5 will push through on Netflix.
According to reports, "Orange is the New Black" season 5 will premiere in 2017. There is no specific date yet but at least it is coming and that should be something for fans to look forward to.
The fifth installment was confirmed after lead star Laura Prepon, who plays Alex Vause, revealed on her Twitter account that she will be directing one of the episodes next season. The star voiced out her excitement but apart from that, there were no other details such as what episode she will be directing.
Prepon is also expected to reprise her role as Alex. But unlike her, Taylor Schilling may no longer return to play her character Piper Chapman. Reports suggested that the 32-year old actress will sign off from the series.
Schilling mentioned in an interview with PopSugar that she is uncertain about Piper's future in the show. Could she be hinting that something big is going to happen to her? This is possible since Piper had stirred up lots of trouble in season 4. In fact, in one of the spoilers released, Piper's hand is about to get smashed. It's still not known if she will make it out okay.
Moreover, her sentence is almost coming to an end. When the show returns, she will have served nine months already so she is close to getting free. But will she be able to make it outside in one piece?
Aside from Piper, reports said that another character that could be in danger is Officer Thomas Humphrey (Michael Torpey). He was last seen held captive with a gun on his head by Daya Diaz (Dascha Polanco). It's still to be known if Daya will pull the trigger and kill the officer for punishing Maritza Ramos (Diane Guerrero). Will Daya be pressured to end Thomas' life?
Fans of "Orange is the New Black" will have to stay tuned to find out.
