'Outlander' season 3 spoilers, plot news: EP teases Claire and Jamie's sea voyage; Richard Rankin talks Brianna-Roger romance
Executive producer Ron Moore is looking forward to featuring an entirely new chapter in the "Outlander" saga in season 3.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Moore said that the storyline he is most excited to bring to the small screen in "Outlander" season 3 is Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie's (Sam Heughan) lengthy journey by ship to Jamaica.
"It would be great to do the ships," Moore said, adding that he is a "big ship person" (his company is named Tall Ship Productions). "It would be fun to get to do rigged ships and go on sea voyages and go to Jamaica. It will be a big blast to do this new chapter in the saga."
"Outlander" season 3 will be based on "Voyager," the third installment in Diana Gabaldon's bestselling "Outlander" book series. The Starz romance/historical drama of the same title is the television adaptation of the novels.
In "Voyager," Claire finally makes her way back to Jamie after going back to her own time just before the Battle of Culloden began. When she returns to the 1700s, she and Jamie will be setting off on a long and arduous sea journey to rescue Young Ian, Jamie's nephew.
Speaking with THR, Moore revealed that the "Outlander" crew is currently working on season 3 and that they already have the scripts for the first few episodes locked down. He also said that the team is already in pre-production in Scotland but that they probably won't be filming until August or September.
Meanwhile, "Outlander" newbie Richard Rankin, who made his debut as Roger Wakefield in the season 2 finale, spoke to Entertainment Weekly about his character's feelings for Sophie Skelton's Brianna. He shared that he and the actress spoke at length about how they wanted the romance between the two characters to play out on the show.
According to the actor, they wanted to make the attraction more realistic and to take things a bit more slowly for the television adaptation.
"We wanted to give it a few beats," he said, "a few hints of what may happen with Roger and Brianna, and drop a couple of hints at what their relationship might become, especially for the people who haven't read the books, who don't already know what happens."
"Outlander" season 3 will debut sometime in 2017.
