'Overwatch' latest news, update: Characters to be retired soon? New character named Sombra to be introduced?
Recently, the rumor mill spawned talks that some favorite characters from Blizzard Entertainment's "Overwatch" will be taken off the roster. Is there truth to the rumor? Blizzard Entertainment's game director dishes on this.
There was uproar among fans when news circulated that certain characters will potentially be removed or retired from the multiplayer shooter game. However, game director Jeff Kaplan addressed the rumors and urged fans not to spread anything unfounded as of yet.
Apparently, Kaplan had an interview where he said some characters may possibly be removed from "Overwatch" in order to balance the game and as soon as the roster of character reaches a particular size. Now while Kaplan did say that, he was quick to follow up that the game's development team has no immediate plans to remove any of the heroes.
According to Kaplan, what he said during the interview was that it was a possibility, something they are holding the door open for, but it is not a final confirmation in any way. Speaking to Express.co.uk, Kaplan said various fan-administered threads are focusing much attention on something that is a non-issue.
"We're not even remotely thinking about retiring heroes right now or anytime in the foreseeable future," he said.
Kaplan said the business model of "Overwatch" certainly allows the developers to retire heroes without feeling bad for doing so. It's actually a favor to fans, something they can do free when their roster of heroes get too big and they don't know what to do with other characters.
Meanwhile, there are talks that Blizzard Entertainment is considering adding a new character to "Overwatch" who will be named Sombra. Apparently, the character will be launched after the new Eichenwald map, which will contain a "Dark Souls" secret, is released.
Eichenwald is set in an abandoned castle in Stuttgart, Germany, and it will combine escort gameplay and assault. Basically, a team of players will need to escort a ram into the castle while the opposing team tries its best to defend the castle. It appears there will be "Dark Souls" Easter eggs hidden throughout the gameplay.
"Overwatch" is available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows. In the meantime, keep coming back for more updates on the multiplayer shooter game.
