'Overwatch' news: Director wants to ban use of mouse and keyboard on consoles; character Lucio heading to 'Heroes of the Storm' MOBA
High level "Overwatch" players are allegedly using a keyboard and mouse on consoles, and Blizzard is taking action to stop it.
In a recent forum post, game director Jeff Kaplan announced that Blizzard objects to the use of mouse and keyboard on consoles. Though he didn't explicitly say why, it's presumably because of the precise aim advantage that players have when using a mouse pointer, compared to a console's ordinary analog stick. Kaplan said Blizzard has already contacted Sony and Microsoft to express their concern about the use of keyboard and mouse through converters.
"We have lobbied and will continue to lobby for first-party console manufacturers to either disallow mouse and keyboard and input conversion devices or openly and easily support mouse and keyboard for all players," Kaplan wrote. "I encourage you to reach out to the hardware manufacturers and express your concerns (but please do so in a productive and respectful way)," he went on to say.
Kaplan's statement was reportedly made as a response to a thread which claims that many high level "Overwatch" console players use keyboard and mouse through converters. The company stressed that they are opposed to the use of such devices on consoles, but Sony and Microsoft have not released their official stance on this matter.
In other news, "Overwatch" character Lucio is heading to "Heroes of the Storm" in a future update. The character will be tested in the MOBA's Public Test Realm starting Feb. 6, and he will then be added to the game's lineup sometime soon. Similar to the role he plays in "Overwatch," Lucio will join the game as a support character. Lucio will also get a brand new Heroic ability called Reverse Amp, which allows him to either slow down opponents or cause damage to their health.
Developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment, "Overwatch" is available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC.
