'Overwatch' season 2 air date news: Competitive Play ranking system revealed for next season
"Overwatch" fans are definitely excited for the game's Season 2. According to reports, the people behind the game are making some major changes in the skill rating scale for the upcoming second season. Blizzard Entertainment is expected to launch the game's Competitive Play in a few days and the company has recently divulged several concrete details with regard to "Overwatch" Season 2.
According to a report by The Bitbag, "Overwatch" Season 2 director, James Kaplan, has previously confirmed that changes will be done to make the game more exciting for fans.
"We're also trying to take the focus a little bit away from skill rating", Kaplan explained. "We don't want that number to be what you associate with you as a competitive player."
The director added: "Ties should be very very rare on the hybrid maps and the payloads. On the payloads, the only times that a tie is realistically going to happen is if nobody pushes the cart at all... On hybrids, ties will only happen if nobody initially captures the payload."
There will be no more draws in "Overwatch" Season 2 as all points will be rewarded to the players. According to the same publication, the Competitive Play ranking system of Season 2 has already been revealed.
- Bronze: 1 to 1,499
- Silver: 1, 500 to 1,999
- Gold: 2,000 to 2,499
- Platinum: 2,500 to 2,999
- Diamond: 3,000 to 3,499
- Master: 3,500 to 3,999
- Grandmaster: 4,000 to 5,000
Meanwhile, Game N Guide reported that the possible retirement of heroes might happen in the near future. Nonetheless, Kaplan said that the most popular characters will not be removed from the game. The game director explained that the possible removal of several heroes will bring more balance to "Overwatch" Season 2.
"Overwatch" Season 2 Competitive Play will come out on Sept. 6. Blizzard is expected to reveal more details about the second season before its final air date.
