'Pokemon Go' Generation 2 news, update, rumors: New trainer interactions expected; Legendary Pokemon set to arrive
Niantic Labs' "Pokemon Go" became a massive hit when it was first released back in July. It quickly made a record for the most number of downloads in a short period of time. Game critics and fans alike gave positive reviews for "Pokemon Go," although for the past few months, there is a noticeable decline in interest among its usual players. "Pokemon Go" fans are hoping that Niantic will be able to provide something new and exciting to sustain the game's momentum. One of the popular requests is the arrival of Generation 2 Pokemon in "Pokemon Go," in which Niantic has gladly acknowledged.
For now, Niantic has not yet confirmed when will the next game update will be released, or if the said update will indeed feature the Gen 2 pocket monsters. Nevertheless, Niantic is expected to provide new contents for the game, and perhaps the Gen 2 update for "Pokemon Go" will feature the much awaited Legendary Pokemon. Game N Guide noted that there has never been a Legendary Pokemon spotted in "Pokemon Go," citing that these pocket monsters can only be obtained by successfully catching one and not by evolving or hatching them from eggs. Some of the missing Legendary Pokemon include Mew, Mewtwo, Articuno, Moltres and Zapdos.
According to iTech Post, it is possible that the Gen 2 update will roll out after all of the first 150 Generation 1 Pokemon have already appeared in "Pokemon Go." Therefore, there might be a couple of updates that include the remaining Gen 1 Pokemon before Niantic can release the Gen 2 game update.
The release date of "Pokemon Go" Generation 2 update is not yet confirmed, although it is likely that Niantic will be able to come up with such sometime next year. Aside from the new lineup of Pokemon, the Gen 2 update may also include several new contents that will also affect the players' usual activities in the game. For one, players have been requesting for new ways to interact with their fellow Pokemon trainers. With this, Niantic may likely include a new trading system to allow more player-to-player interactions.
Moreover, another possible new interaction is a battle system wherein two Pokemon trainers will be able to fight each other in a private match. A similar battle system already exists in the game in the form of gym battles, although a player versus player scenario sounds different and exciting.
