'Pokemon Go' news, guide: Game experiences dip in number of players; Is rampant map cheating to blame?
Niantic's latest augmented reality (AR) mobile gaming app, "Pokemon Go," has taken the world by storm since it was first released in the North American continent last July. The mobile game developer soon followed up the launching of the Pokemon-based mobile game in other parts of the world. It shattered the record number of downloads for a single day among Android and Apple iOS users. However, the massive hype that the game has generated seems to be levelling off as of the moment.
According to Tech Worm, "Pokemon Go" has a record daily active users of up to 45 million. However, the active "Pokemon Go" users went down by a huge drop from 45 million to 32 million in just a matter of days. The collective data gathered from Sensor Tower, SurveyMonkey, and Apptopia also show that the game has seen a decline in the number of engagements, downloads and the total number of time the users spend on the gaming app.
There are many possible reasons for the seemingly drop in interest among the mobile phone users, and even for the solid "Pokemon" fans. As reported by Game N Guide, it is possible that the users found Niantic too slow in fixing the reported bugs in the game. Nevertheless, Niantic has been doing its best to update the app with bug fixes every week.
It is also likely that the game's decline is just normal. It can be attributed to how the game was launched and the amount of hype the public has given even before the game was released. It is natural for this hype to go down a few weeks after its launching, and as fo "Pokemon Go," it still has an impressive record and ranking as of this week.
Meanwhile, the GPS map cheating has been rampant in "Pokemon Go" as players find going out of their houses and walking around to be too tiring. This can also be one of the reasons why other players start to lose interest in the game. The good thing is that Niantic also started to issue permanent account ban for those who will be caught using the GPS map hack. Interestingly, people have recently figured out a new way to use the hack without Niantic detecting them, although it has yet to be known if this new hack is effective.
