'Pokemon Sun and Moon' release date news, update: Demo confirms leaked starter evolutions, Ultra Beasts, and more
The demo for the upcoming "Pokemon Sun and Moon" was released on Tuesday, Oct. 18, a month ahead of the video games' release date, and it revealed some interesting details about the highly anticipated titles.
The demo, which featured the upcoming Alolan region, teased an all-new storyline for "Pokemon Sun and Moon" and revealed some intense battles, along with the removal of Hidden Machines or HMs and the "Island Challenge" in lieu of the traditional Gym setup.
Avid "Pokemon" fans pored through the newly released demo and found that Game Freak littered it with a bunch of new characters, including several that have already been leaked, as well as some shiny new versions and regional variants of beloved Pokemon. A full regional Pokedex for "Pokemon Sun and Moon" based on the demo has been published by imgur user ProfShroomish.
In addition, YouTuber Kaphotics has posted a series of videos detailing the recent dat mining of the "Pokemon Sun and Moon" demo. The YouTuber pointed out that based on the demo, the final evolutions for the starter Pokemon that were previously leaked appear to be accurate.
Recently, leaked sketches appeared to have revealed the final evolutionary forms for the starter Pokemon Rowlet, Litten and Popplio. Many fans believed the alleged evolutions to be real given that the character Mallow, which hadn't been announced at the time of the leak, appeared in the sketches. Mallow was confirmed in an official trailer released in August.
Based on the "Pokemon Sun and Moon" demo, it now appears that the concept art for the starter Pokemon's final evolutions are the real deal.
The data mining also uncovered eight of the mysterious Ultra Beasts, though it is likely that there are more in the games. IGN noted that eight is an important number in "Pokemon" and that there were eight badges and eight Gyms in the previous games.
The demo also revealed that all of the Alolan forms in the upcoming games are of first-generation Pokemon. The data mine found Diglett, Dugtrio, Persian and others.
The full version of "Pokemon Sun and Moon" drops on Nov. 18 for the Nintendo 3DS.
