'Portlandia' Season 5 Premiere Date, Spoilers: Digging Deeper Into Characters' Lives
"Portlandia" has just released its trailer for Season 5, and it looks like there will be some unexpected revelations to happen as the story goes deep into the characters of Tony and Candace, the feminist bookstore owners. The premiere is set on Jan. 8, 2015, 10 p.m. on IFC.
The 10-episode season is to feature new and familiar faces such as Steve Buscemi (Broadwalk Empire), Vanessa Bayer (Saturday Night Live), Jeff Goldblum (Law & Order: Criminal Intent), Greta Gerwig (Frances Ha), Anna Gunn (Breaking Bad), Natasha Leone (Orang is the New Black), Jane Lunch (Glee), Kumail Nanjiani (Franklin & Bash), Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks), Parker Posey, Matt Groening (Creator of Simpsons), Paul Reubens (Pee-wee's Playhouse), Olivia Wilde (House), and Paul Simon (Singer/Songwriter).
The new season will feature Lisa and Bryce's Taxidermy Shop getting vandalized; couple Nina and Lance seeking out for therapy; how Kris and Malcolm are doing as parents; and how Carrie and Fred are planning to buy a home in Portland. Of course, there's the regular comedic concoction that makes these stories fun to watch.
In an interview, Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen, main characters of the show, revealed that the episodes are to dig deeper into the lives of the characters for the viewers to "appreciate them even more." Indeed, fans are looking forward to another season of funny and entertaining episodes.
The comedy series, which debuted in 2011, has received positive reviews from television critics such as Tom Gliatto of People Weekly, Phillip Macaik of Slant Magazine, Sarah Rodman of Boston Globe, and Maureen Ryan and Hank Stuever of the Huffington Post.
