The 2017 movie installment of "Power Rangers" might only be the first from the series of movies of the franchise envisioned by production company Lionsgate.

"We are really, really excited about the 'Power Rangers' movie," Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said during a conference call last week. Feltheimer further said, "We could see doing five or six or seven."

Preceding this bold statement from the Lionsgate CEO was the well-received "Power Rangers" costume reveal which took place earlier this month. Feltheimer was quoted saying that the positive reception and feedback toward this unveiling of the "Power Rangers" suits drove his optimism about the franchise.

"Power Rangers" director Dean Israelite told The Entertainment Weekly that the show was about kids' transition, their "metamorphosis."

"These suits needed to feel like they were catalyzed by these kids and their energy, their spirit," explained Israelite.

To this, production designer Andrew Menzies added that it has been tricky finding a new style for new "Power Rangers" costumes. He further explained that the superheroes transform into an alien costume that grows on them and is not man-made. His design of the new Rangers costume is meant to appeal to more mature audiences and intended to gain new followers.

The new "Power Rangers" who will don these suits are Becky G (Yellow Ranger Trini), Ludi Lin (Black Ranger Zack), Dacre Montgomery (Red Ranger Jason), Naomi Scott (Pink Ranger Kimberly), and RJ Cyler (Blue Ranger Billy).

In February it was disclosed by The Hollywood Reporter that "Hunger Games" actress Elizabeth Banks will portray the now classic role of villainess Rita Repulsa. The evil sorceress during the original "Power Rangers" era would constantly send earth-invading creatures to try and take down the Rangers but was never successful in gaining absolute control over the planet.

"Power Rangers" first appeared in the TV series "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" back in 1993. The superheroes since then have spawned revival TV shows, and inspired a few movies and several video games.

The new "Power Rangers" movie will premiere on March 24, 2017.
